What Happens When You Lose the Manual for Your Home Theater Gear?
published onNovember 3, 2011

Gadget shopping website Retrevo often releases interesting surveys related to consumer buying habits and technology. In conjunction with their free manual download service, they released some interesting facts about HDTVs, Blu-Ray players, DVDs and other consumer technology and the manuals that go with them. We couldn’t resist adding our observations (in parentheses).

  • The first work day after Christmas is the most popular day for people to look for manuals (Really? People lose the manual that fast? Does it get tossed out with the trash? Interesting how they wait until company time to start their search.)
  • The most manuals are downloaded on Monday. (Again, why do something like that at home?)
  • Most people download manuals between 10 AM and 1 PM. (Well, you want to get that done before you get side-tracked by actual work, of course!)
  • The most common reason for downloading manuals is to find remote control codes.

Here’s another fact about manuals, based on our own observations. A lot of people don’t like to read them. And that’s okay. Sometimes the information you need is hard to find. Sometimes it’s written in tech jargon, making it hard to apply what you’re reading. And sometimes, you’d just rather have a person walk you through the complicated technology that makes up your home theater system.

Whatever the reason, if you need help programming your remote control (whether you have the manual or not), if your home theater has a blown amp, or if you just can’t get some of the components in your home theater system to work together, we want to help you. It’s like the contractors of old used to say, “No job too big or small.” We regularly design systems worth hundreds of thousands of dollars in restaurants, ultra-lounges, nightclubs and hotels. And we love watching people’s reactions when we create something really cool to set trends in the hospitality industry.

But one of the most rewarding parts of our job is when we get to help our neighbors — local Staten Island residents — set up their HDTV or home theater exactly the way they need it to meet the needs of their family.

Lost the manual? Retrevo might come in handy. Found the manual but still can’t fix the problem? We’re here to help.
